The JCSO thrilled a audience of 1000 with holiday music at our Sixth Annual Christmas Gala & Holiday Pops Concert on Saturday, December 3, 2011. So many of your holiday favorites were performed including O Holy Night, White Christmas and Sleigh Ride. There were performances by the adult and children’s choir, our soloist Holly DeClaudio, Lyric Soprano, Alyce Mathias, guest reader and the exceptional JCSO! And an appearance was even made by The Grinch and Santa Claus!!! It was quite a night of music, followed by a delicious Champagne Dessert Reception. As folks were leaving, some were heard saying that they were already planning to return again next year…..

About JCSO

The mission of the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra is to bring the citizens of Johns Creek and surrounding communities the world’s greatest symphonic music performed at the highest possible artistic level.

The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra is comprised of professional musicians from all around the greater Atlanta metro area. Its Maestro and founder, J. Wayne Baughman is the Music Director & Conductor who has been a fixture on the Atlanta music scene for over thirty-five years. He aspired to bring together the very best symphonic musicians to serve Johns Creek and neighboring communities. In April of 2007, the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra was officially incorporated as a Georgia non-profit performing arts organization.

JCSO musicians are among the finest instrumentalists in America, with an average of 16 years experience in professional orchestras. Most of the members have graduate degrees or artist diplomas in performing arts from the leading institutions of higher learning in the US, and many have received additional training in Berlin, London, Rome, Salzburg, Vienna and other leading European music centers. The members of the JCSO are committed to providing its audiences with the highest caliber of symphonic music possible.

2011 Arts on the Creek Festival

This past Labor Day Weekend, the JCSO was delighted to be part of the Arts on the Creek Festival in Johns Creek. Several thousand turned out to experience music & art, vendors from all over the southeast, as well as local businesses display their wares to the greater Johns Creek community.  We were part of the Arts Alliance Artists Village comprised of six major artistic and cultural entities all based in Johns Creek.  Eight of our very talented musicians made quite an impact on the crowds as they performed throughout the weekend, wowing them with strings, reeds, harp & flute along with a very loud percussion blast!

Summer Strings 2011! Music Camp

The first inaugural Summer Strings 2011! Music Camp held by the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra concluded on Saturday, June 18th with great success! An outstanding final recital capped an exciting week of sectional, technique and orchestral instruction for 23 area students. Ranging from rising fourth through rising eleventh graders, these students worked to perfect their sound and quality of play, and then had master classes in fiddle instruction which they loved! Each day the students were able to enjoy a recital by invited musicians from the greater Atlanta Metro area and could then blow off some steam with fun recreational time. Each afternoon focused orchestra/ensemble play, and given the results of the final concert, it would appear as though they learned their lessons well. Instruction was provided by JCSO principal musicians, along with Concertmaster Adelaide Federici and Maestro J. Wayne Baughman who directed the orchestra. Special thanks to Mt. Pisgah Christian School who allowed us to rent their beautiful facilities, along with Bryan Hatmaker, Mt. Pisgah Director of Band and school liaison to the camp. Special thanks to the corporate sponsors RBC Bank, CIBAVISION, Gwinnett Medical Center Duluth, Optech Monett and Champps Americana who helped make this possible. Shall We Dance?

Dance as a social activity and art form has a rich and glorious history dating back to Medieval times.  Naturally, any review or historical perspective of dance must delve deeply into the music which accompanies the movement.  In its Season Four finale, the JCSO will perform an array of dance music from four historical periods.  Bourrée, minuet, polka, waltz, two step, mazurka, foxtrot, tango and swing are just some of the dance styles we‘ll be sampling with help, of course, from real live ballroom dancers. This light-hearted program will have you dancing in the aisles.
